The Association of Czech Translation Agencies (ACTA) is an interest group of legal entities providing translation and interpreting services. Since its foundation in 2005, the ACTA has been a member of the European Union of Associations of Translation Companies (EUATC), which unites all European national translation company associations.
   
     
Objectives of Association of Czech Translation Agencies

ACTA’s Objectives:
a) To unite translation companies and promote interaction and co-operation between these companies, as well as to protect and encourage the promotion of the translation and interpreting industry in the Czech Republic;
b) To promote and assist the development of companies united in the Association;
c) To conduct market surveys; advise its members and share general information on all matters relating to translation and interpreting; to print, publish, distribute, circulate and provide access to such papers, journals, books, circulars and other printed documents, as may contribute any of the Association’s objectives;
d) To collect data and other information on all issues related to the translation and interpreting industry and evaluate them statistically;
e) To improve and promote general and technical knowledge, the quality of enterprises, companies and persons operating in the translation and interpreting industry or any related industries, as well as to support fair and honest conduct within the profession and to eliminate professional negligence;
f) To prepare for and to promote the execution of contracts and other equitable documents used in the translation and interpreting industry; to encourage the settlement of disputes through arbitration and to appoint mediators and arbitrators under various conditions and circumstances when considered appropriate;
g) To promote and support the implementation of principles applicable to professional conduct and business practice, to create one or more fair-play standards within the profession and, to this end, propose and adopt such regulations as shall be, from time to time, necessary or appropriate in the future for the interests of the profession or the business practice and the professional conduct of its members, and to ensure, or attempt to ensure, that they are accepted and respected;
h) To conduct any research that is considered necessary or desirable in order to meet any of the Association’s objectives, to encourage the process of identification, assessment and publishing of the details of and the advantages offered by proposals for innovations and improvement processes, which could be of benefit for translation and interpreting businesses, companies or individual translators and interpreters;
i) To keep a list of the Association members, including detailed information on their specialized qualifications and accompanying translation and interpreting services provided by the members, and distribute them to potential interested parties, as appropriate;
j) To encourage exchanges of young translators and interpreters, organize trainings for new entrants to the industry, refresher courses and other related activities;
k) To recommend agency services to consumers and explain to them the advantages of the services provided by the association members and protect consumer interests.

ACTA objectives within international contacts:
a) To represent and promote the interests of its members in negotiations with European and international institutions and organizations;
b) To build and develop relations with associations of similar professional orientation worldwide;
c) To cooperate with national translator associations;
d) To inform members on the outcomes of international associations;
e) To be the exclusive representative of the Czech Republic in the EUATC;
f) To delegate participants for EUATC meetings and submit proposals for representatives.
